Guatemala, officially the Republic of Guatemala, is a country in Central America, bordered by Mexico to the north and west, Belize to the northeast, Honduras to the east, and El Salvador to the southeast. It also has coastlines along the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. The capital and largest city is Guatemala City.
Guatemala has a population of over 17 million people and is one of the most culturally rich nations in Latin America. A large portion of the population is of Mayan descent. Spanish is the official language, but over 20 Mayan languages are spoken. Cultural highlights include traditional textiles and vibrant clothing, Indigenous customs and festivals and strong family and community values. Guatemala has the largest economy in Central America, driven by: Agriculture (coffee, bananas, sugar, manufacturing and exports and remittances from abroad. Challenges include poverty, inequality, and rural development gaps including drugs and gang affiliations. Religion plays a significant role in Guatemalan society with Christianity being the dominant faith, Roman Catholicism and rapidlly growing Evangelical/Protestant churches.
Pastor Salvador and his wife Marta have a strong medical background and serve the community and church greatly through those gifts. We currently have 3 churches in Guatemala.
