Ethiopia, officially the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, is a landlocked country located in the Horn of Africa. It is bordered by Eritrea, Djibouti, Somalia, Kenya, South Sudan, and Sudan. With a population of over 120 million people, it is the second-most populous country in Africa after Nigeria. The capital and largest city is Addis Ababa.
Ethiopia is a highly diverse nation, home to over 80 ethnic groups and languages, with major groups including Oromo, Amhara, Tigray, and Somali. The official working language is Amharic. Its rich cultural heritage is marked by unique Ethiopian Orthodox Christian traditions, a distinct calendar and time system, and a renowned coffee culture—Ethiopia is widely considered the birthplace of coffee.
Christianity accounts for approximately 60–65% of Ethiopia’s population, with the Ethiopian Orthodox Church as the largest and most historically influential group. Ethiopia is spiritually unique as one of the earliest Christian nations, with roots dating back to the 4th century. In recent decades, Protestant and Evangelical communities have grown rapidly, particularly in southern regions and urban centers, making Evangelical Christianity one of the fastest-growing movements in the country. Islam comprises about 30–35% of the population and is predominantly practiced in the eastern and southeastern regions, as well as in some urban areas. Many areas experience peaceful coexistence between Christians and Muslims. However, there are occasional tensions, often tied to ethnic or regional factors.
In 2025, River of LIfe was introduced to a network of young and vibrant pastors in Addis Ababa where an introduction to Pastor Amde was created. The vision of River of LIfe was shared and Pastor Amde decided to officially join the River of Life family in January 2026.
Pastor Amde joins River of Life with over a decade of ministry experience, having faithfully served as a pastor dedicated to teaching, leadership, and spiritual formation. Ordained with 11 years of full-time ministry—including three years in pastoral leadership—he brings a strong blend of practical experience and academic depth to his ministry.
He recently launched a Telegram group, River Life Family, where individuals are connecting and catching the vision. In addition, he has begun going out twice a week for evangelism, faithfully reaching the community one-on-one.
